 T he super-success of both the films Gadar - Ek Prem Katha and Lagaan has brought cheers to the drought-hit film industry. Both the films have been critically and commercially well-received. Gadar – Ek Prem Katha is ahead of Lagaan in North and Central India while Lagaan is ahead in Mumbai, South and overseas Gadar – Ek Prem Katha is doing fabulous business all over India. Sunny Deol is back with a bang after a very long period. The film has done approx Rs 4 crore of business in India in its first week. At many places the film did 100% collections.   What an interesting year! So many things happened that had never happened before! . For instance for the first time in the sixty years of it's existence, the film industry in Maharashtra closed all its cinemas from September 1 for a period of nine days to protest against a further steep rise in the Entertainment tax. A momentous decision, a drastic step, one which took a lot of guts on the parts of all film industry sectors concerned to take. Unfortunately, on a vague assurance given by Government, the "strike" fizzled out, and what "concessions" came thereafter were in the nature of a consolation-price with which the industry is vastly dissatisfied.
