Biwi Ho Toh Aisi, a small budget film, in which Salman had a brief role, did excellent business in Uttar Pardesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and was an overflow film elsewhere. But the success of this film cannot be credited to Salman because the film was sold entirely on Rekha star power and it did good business mainly due to her. Maine Pyar Kiya, Salman first film as a hero in true sense, is the biggest box-office grosser of all-time. The film broke all the box-office records that existed. It is considered new Sholay of recent times. Salman next film Baaghi , in which he gave story idea, took fantastic opening mainly due to because of Salman's super craze after Maine Pyar Kiya and Baaghi too proved to be a runaway superhit at the box-office. Sanam Bewafa has become the biggest box-office hit of the year (as of now) beating biggies like Hum. In some parts of Northern circuits, Sanam Bewafa has done phenomenal business and even better than Maine Pyar Kiya in some parts. His fifth film, Patthar Ke Phool which released along with biggies like Yodha and Farishtay and yet turned out to be a winner. It may have not done as expected business but it has done excellent business in Bombay, big cities and it's a big hit in South circuits. His sixth film ' Kurbaan ' also raked in very good moolah. Infact it has done exceptionally well in the North. And more recently released Saajan in which he has starred opposite Madhuri Dixit and Sunjay Dutt has already become a hit and it's heading towards to become a blockbuster hit. Saajan is doing extraordinary business everywhere mainly due to Salman's star power and superhit music. Dharmendra was born as Dharam Singh Deol in Nasrali, a village in Ludhiana district, Punjab on 8 December 1935 to Kewal Kishan Singh Deol and Satwant Kaur into a Jat Sikh family.His ancestral village is Dangon, near Pakhowal Tehsil Raikot, Ludhiana. Dharmendra was the winner of Filmfare magazine's nationally organised new talent award and went to Mumbai from Punjab, to work in the movie promised, being the award winner, but the movie was never made.He later made his debut with Arjun Hingorani's Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in 1960.
