The fact that Salman Khan is the only superstar so far to achieve super-stardom without even working in a single film with the Chopras camp, Subhash Ghai and Trimurti Films . Salman has been routinely blasted by the media for his wayward ways and tantrums. A section of film media, due to dislike to Sallu's arrogant ways has spread the rumor about another Khan being the number one which is infact he is not, says many distributors. Salman films are safe Propositions. Salman films command high price from distributors and get terrific initial and recovers their cost easily. "Salman unlike Shah Rukh, has given hits not only with big film makers, but also with small and nondescript film makers like Saawan Kumar, Lawrence D Souza, Deepak Bahri, Nitin Manmohan, Murlidar Rao, etc and even Sanjay Leela Bhanshali hit it commercially big with Salman".
His Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Maine Pyar Kiya are among the top ten most successful films in the history of Indian cinema. Even Karan Arjun is rated among the top twenty highly successful film in the history of Indian Cinema.
Today, the media reports anything Salman does. Actually, that first line merits a revision. Even if he does not do anything, the media prefers to turn it into a story because he has done... nothing! To the credit of the guy, what must be affirmed is that his pals continue to share his highs and lows. They enjoy with him and, when he is at the receiving end for some reason or the other (or no reason at all), these friends back him emotionally.
While being a solid emotional anchor for his close pals, Salman has preferred to keep off the media because of his firm views on where the press should intrude and where it should not. He has been practically disdainful about the powers of the Fourth Estate, and he has explained why: "Earlier, when I was not a star, I never requested a photographer to click me with a star, so why do I need the press today. If I did not need the press then, I don't need them now either. Let them write whatever they want to - I care a damn about it."
Many assert that this Khan belongs to that nearly extinct kind of human beings who, once they trust you, do so unconditionally. "Salman's a complete loyalist. From Maine Pyar Kiya till now, his staff is the same, except Shabina. The first film I did for him was Biwi No. 1 and I was forced on Salman by David Dhawan. I was doing Sushmita's clothes then and though every one in the unit insisted that I do his clothes as well, he just didn't agree. This was, even though we were friends. He kept insisting that only his designer (Shabina) would design for him. He, finally, gave in to the pressure but not before explaining the situation to Shabina. Once the film was complete, he went back to Shabina and we didn't work together for the next two years."
